Blue Grass Army Depot Prescribed Burn, 5 March 2010

I joined up with folks from the BGAD, KDFWR, and TNC to volunteer on a prescribed burn on a couple of their native grassland restoration sites. On site we had 4 UTVs outfitted with 100 gal water tanks, several drip torches, various hand tools, and a back up engine provided by the Depot. The weather cooperated and the burns were a success. It total, we burned about 50 - 60 acres.

Macros and snow

We knew it would be cold, but we were ok with that. Our long journey in the warm truck ended with a cold blast from the Tennessee winter. Although we were prepared with warm layers and water-proof gear including chest waders, it was not enough for me. After spending about an hour in and out of the water, we settled onto the seine to pick bugs.

Review - Muck boots

Very comfortable, but easy to tear the soft part along the calf. I think that has happened twice so far. If you are careful (which we are not), they are very good for long term wear during the day or night.

Review - Black Diamond Icon headlamp

Review – I love it! I have had a number of headlamps in the past five years and this is by far my favorite, so much so that I bought it twice…because I lost the first one. L Now, if you are looking for a heavy duty, car headlight brightness, will last a month type of headlamp like the ones that require an external battery pack, this is probably not for you.

Mark and his FJ

I have owned a couple of 4WD vehicles and many times I have had to walk several miles to get to a place to call for assistance because I was stuck and could not get the truck out. After a year of researching the Toyota FJ Cruiser, Copperhead Consulting bought their first new vehicle during the summer of 2008.

Welcome to Copperhead Consulting....

Our office in downtown Paint Lick, Kentucky! Actually this is the town, both up and down...having a work space only two miles from my home means that, while I don't own a horse, I could probably ride the Vizlsa to work. The square on the facade next to the window is actually a gun port that we sometimes use to fend off hostiles and/or other riffraff...
