Botanist
Seasonal botanists needed June-September 2010. We seek botanists who have flexible schedules and are looking for unique opportunities to expand their field experience. Work hours are variable and may be negotiated. Duties include performing surveys of rare and sensitive plants and/or plant communities, general plant community description, and voucher specimen collection and preparation on state and federal lands in the southeastern U.S. Candidates should have excellent knowledge of identifying characters of plant taxa of the southeastern U.S.; ability to identifying plants using dichotomous keys and floras; ability to work independently across rugged terrain and a variety of weather conditions, follow established survey protocols, and collect detailed and accurate data. Candidates should also be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel). Required background: B.S. in botany, forest ecology, plant ecology, natural resources, conservation biology or a closely related field; M.S. degree (completed or in progress) preferred.

Field Technicians
Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is now hiring Team Leaders and Field Technicians for the 2010 summer season (typically May 15 – August 15). Team Leaders should possess the necessary vaccinations and experience required to handle and identify bats of the eastern United States including the endangered Indiana bat. Field Technicians should be energetic, detail-oriented individuals who preferably have or are currently pursuing a degree in a biology-related field, e.g., wildlife management, biology, environmental resources, etc. Applicants for both positions should posses a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel and work in harsh conditions, including biting insects, inclement weather, rough terrain, and long hours. Previous radio-telemetry experience is preferred but not required. Room, board and travel will be provided by Copperhead and pay is commensurate with experience and education.
