Macros and snow
We knew it would be cold, but we were ok with that. Our long journey in the warm truck ended with a cold blast from the Tennessee winter. Although we were prepared with warm layers and water-proof gear including chest waders, it was not enough for me. After spending about an hour in and out of the water, we settled onto the seine to pick bugs. With our faces only inches from the ground, we were somewhat unaware of our surroundings. When white movement continuously caught my eye that was not a living thing, I looked up to view the snowstorm that was upon us. "It's snowing," I said, and continued to pick macros from the net.
Thankfully it did not last all day, and it was pretty while it lasted. I love field work. I am fine with the cold and the heat, but summer chest waders do not insulate your feet against 2.3 degree Celsius water for 4 hours. Lesson lived, lesson learned...
